BOOKS

Over the past 15 years, I have written about 20 books, including the Spiegel bestseller The Flicks, the handbooks In Data We Trust and Smart Data and, together with Erik Spiekermann, a bestselling book on Design Thinking. In 2014 I published my first novel about the good life (and the bad life) in large corporations.

Reinventing Capitalism in the Age of Big Data, which I co-authored with Oxford professor Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, has been translated into 20 languages and has stimulated a worldwide debate on data monopolies. Who’s Afraid of AI, a short and comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence, hit the shelves in 2019. If you like infographics please check out The Global Economy as You’ve Never Seen It (co-authored with Jan Schwochow). Viktor and I have put out another book recently at University of California Press: Access Rules – Freeing Data from Big Tech For a Better Future. And there is a book of mine forthcoming at MIT Press in fall 2023: On Brink of Utopia: Reinventing Innovation to Solve the World's Largest Problems.
